App Activation Mechanisms

On September 14, 2018 we are rolling out a new design. Learn more

Overview

This page summarizes different types of activation mechanisms supported by SpotMe apps. Every mechanism allows you to easily authenticate your users based on different available data, security levels and convenience.

Multi-event

Single-event

Differences with Eventspace app

All methods below are supported by Eventspace and Workspace apps. Out-of-the box both apps use Email and password mechanism (see notes), but they allow users to authenticate using any of the mechanisms listed below through an additional step - domain identification.

Customization

Colors and the welcome graphic can be customized per each app. To customize colors or graphics of an existing app please contact Backstage support.

Activation mechanisms

Email

Users just type their email address and in an instant have access to all their events/workspaces.

Requirements

  • Organizer
    • User’s email addresses entered in Backstage CMS
  • User
    • Email client with correct email address required on same device

Deployment checklist

Notes

  • Activation link is valid for 30 minutes, after which users have to request a new one from the app

Email and password

Alternative workflow users to set their own password the first time they use the app, and later log in with it.

Requirements

  • Organizer
    • User’s email addresses entered in Backstage CMS

Notes

  • In branded apps, passwords can be either set by users or pre-defined by SpotMe
  • In Eventspace app, passwords are always pre-defined
  • In Workspace app, passwords are always set by users

Public Registration

Users sign-up directly in the app through a customizable form. Signing up will give them access only to one event/workspace.

Requirements

  • Organizer
    • Decide what is the information you need to know about the participants (email, contact details, address, etc.)
  • User
    • Email client with correct email address required on same device

Deployment checklist

  • For Eventspace, include domain name you chose in the app download email

Notes

  • Confirmation email can be customized
  • Registration form supports free-text, password and dropdown fields

Single Sign-On (SSO)

Enterprise-ready activation mechanism. Users login to the app with a corporate identity provider and get access to all of their events/workspaces.

Deployment checklist

  • For Eventspace, include the domain name you chose in the app download email

Notes

Third-Party Login (3PL)

This mechanism allows SpotMe to connect with any proprietary authentication system or identity provider.

Requirements

  • Organizer
    • Developer documentation of the authentication system

Notes

  • Credentials are stored on the device
  • System can be both configured to allow access to only one event/workspace or to multiple
  • Not supported in the Web App

Custom Username (Event Login)

Users can login using a username based on any profile field and a predefined password.

Requirements

  • Organizer
    • Ensure username field is present for all participants in event/workspace
