Summary

Eventspace 2.0 is our next-generation mobile app, specially designed to support hybrid and virtual events.

In this article we'll walk you through what you can expect from the new Eventspace 2.0 container app, or any custom branded apps that are based on Eventspace 2.0.

What’s new?

This new version of SpotMe apps has a fundamental change in how the app works under the hood.

With previous versions, the app would need to download the entire information about the event to the user's device (known as sync) before being able to access any event information. After this initial sync, the majority of the information and features were then available even when the participant's device was offline.

In this new version, the app will only download the data it needs to display on the screen or the feature the participant is currently using. This also means that only the information that the user has already accessed will be available offline.

Additionally, Eventspace 2.0 will also support Video chat and Video breakouts for mobile apps.

What is being removed?

The following features will be no longer be supported in Eventspace 2.0 apps:

Offline access (as mentioned above).
Customizable per-workspace loading (splash) screens.
Nearby contact list.
Sharing videos from the feed to other apps and services.

When will this be released?

We start rolling out this new version of Eventspace on June 21, 2021. Updates of custom branded apps will start in July.

FAQ

Is my workspace going to work on Eventspace 2.0?

All workspaces created after May 3, 2021 will automatically work on the Eventspace 2.0 app.

For workspaces created before that date, you may need to update all modules and libraries from the Marketplace.

When is my existing branded container app going to be updated with this new version?

We will start rolling out the new version of our mobile apps to custom branded apps in July 2021 as a part of our regular app update process. Our app publishing team will notify you before the update of your app.
