Summary
Creating a workspace for a virtual event is very similar to creating a workspace for an in-person event.
In this article, we'll focus on some of the few aspects that differ slightly when creating virtual events in Backstage.
Virtual event creation
First, let's take a look at how to create a virtual event via the workspace creation wizard.
The steps for creating a virtual workspace are mostly identical to those described in the Creating a workspace article, with some minor differences.
Virtual event template
When you create the workspace, select the Digital experience template for your workspace.
This template already contains all the necessary configuration needed for virtual events.
Note: If you prefer, you can also select any other workspace template instead of the digital experience one. You will simply need to follow the instructions described in the Virtual workspace configuration section to adapt it for a virtual event.
Workspace settings
Location
Select your organization headquarters location (this is not visible in the event).
Timezone
Select your own timezone here. This will be the timezone you will use when adding content to the workspace. If you have users joining in from multiple timezones, you'll need to change the timezone setting in the workspace preferences.
Container app
If you are using SpotMe registration, the container app you choose will determine the link to access the registration page. If you are not using SpotMe registration, select your usual container app.
Note: Once you have created your workspace, if you selected the virtual event template you can immediately proceed with adding your usual workspace content.
Workspace configuration
If you have selected the Virtual event template when creating the workspace, you do not need to perform the below configuration steps, and can proceed to add content to your workspace.
Adapting to your users' timezones
Change the timezone setting so the system will automatically adapt the workspace times to your users timezones. More information is available in the workspace timezones article.
Registration page
If you are using SpotMe registration for your virtual event, you will need to install the Registration page module via the marketplace, in order to configure the page.
More information on this is available in the How to configure a registration page article.
NEXT
One of the main aspects of a virtual event is the ability to live streams session. Read the next article on How does live streaming look in my event for more information on this.
