Summary
On the home page of the app, any added quick links will display default icons in the app based on the content that they link to. For example, quick links that point to sessions will have a standard session icon, quick links that point to chats with have a standard chat icon, etc.
It is however possible, for advanced users, to personalize the quick link icons, using any icons that are uploaded to the workspace.
After creating the quick link, to personalize the icon that will appear in the home page in the app, you will need to associate the quick link to a short link, per the below steps, detailed further in this article:
- Add a shortlink image metadata to the workspace.
- Add an image field to the shortlink configuration.
- Create the shortlink.
- Add the icon image to the shortlink.
- Link your quicklink to the shortlink.
1. Add a shortlink image metadata to the workspace
- In the workspace main menu, go to Settings > Metadata manager.
- In the top dropdown list, select Shortlink.
- Expand the Representation section using the arrow to the right.
- In the Item label template field, enter {{{name}}}.
- In the Image field, enter {{{image}}}.
- Click on Save changes.
2. Add an image field to the shortlink configuration
Still in the Metadata manager, you now need add the image field to the shortlink configuration.
- Scroll down and click on Add a new field.
- Enter the information per the below screenshot
- Click Save changes.
3. Create the shortlink
- In the workspace main menu, go to Content > Shortlinks.
- Click on New shortlink:
- Enter a Short name for the shortlink (visible to app users) and a Reference name (visible in Backstage only). These can be identical.
- In the Image field, enter the path to the image that you want to use as your icon.
More information on finding the path and adding pasting it here is available in the Adding the icon image path section below. - Click on Actions ADD, and determine what the action will be for the shortlink/quicklink. This can be opening a live stream for example.
- Click on Save.
Note: If you have not yet added the image path, you can still click Save, then read the next section on how to add the path to do this, and go back afterwards to add the image path to the shortlink.
4. Add the icon image to the shortlink
You can either add your own personalized image to be used as an icon for the quick link, or you can use an image that already exists in the workspace.
- In the workspace main menu, go to Content > Files > Icons.
This will display a full list of all the icons that are available in the workspace. You can also upload new ones here suing the Upload button. - Now, you will need to get the path of the icon of your choice, in order to add it to the Image field in your shortlink (as explained in step 4 the Create the shortlink):
In the image above, let's imagine that we what to use the highlighted agenda icon for the shortlink. To do so, the path you need to add to the image field, in the shortlink would be:

5. Link your quicklink to the shortlink
Once your shortlink is fully configured, including the personlaize icon, you can configure the quick link so that it opens the shortlink:
- In the workspace main menu, go to Design > Home page > Quicklinks.
- In the quicklink Choose a type dropdown, select Shortlink, and select the shortlink you
created as part of the Create the shortlink section above. - Click on Save this item.
