Speakers and moderators/hosts have different roles during a live stream. They therefore have access to different controls to ensure that the live stream goes well and they can perform their duties.
You'll find an article dedicated specifically to using SpotMe Studio as a speaker, that you can refer to and shared with your invited speakers.
You can also refer to this summary of What can a host, moderator, or speaker do in a live session for more context.
Below we will take a look at the controls that are available to the host/moderators in Studio.
Main controls colors and states
There are two sets of controls available in Studio:
The main controls (1) and the thumbnail controls (2):
Below we'll take a look at how moderators/hosts can use these controls.
Note: When the below actions are performed by users (and to ensure a smooth user experience), notifications may appear onscreen to provide real-time feedback on what is happening during the live stream. More information is available in the Studio user notifications section below.
Moderators/hosts have control of their own device using the main controls (just like speakers), but also have access to all the speakers' devices, using the speaker thumbnail controls:
Using their main controls, moderators/hosts can:
- Mute/enable their own microphone
- Enable/disable their own camera
- Start/stop screensharing
- Invite speakers to join the studio
Using their own thumbnail controls, moderators/hosts can:
- Mute/unmute their own microphone
- Enable/disable their own camera
- Access the more ⋮ button, and change their own name as displayed in the thumbnail and the live broadcast.
Using the speaker thumbnail controls, moderators/hosts can:
- Add and remove the speaker from the live stream, using the + or x buttons visible in the center of the thumbnail when hovering over with the cursor.
- Mute the speaker
- Request that the speaker turn on their microphone (in order to respect the speaker’s privacy)
- Turn off the speaker camera.
- Request that the speaker turn on their camera (in order to respect the speaker’s privacy)
- Access the more ⋮ button, and:
- Kick out the speaker from the live stream
- Add the speaker to the live stream but with audio only (no video)
- Change the speaker's name as displayed in the thumbnail and the live broadcast.
Note: These actions can only be performed on one speaker at a time, via that speaker's thumbnail controls.
Using the speaker's screenshare thumbnail controls, moderators/hosts can:
A speaker's screen share is displayed as a separate thumbnail in the studio, that the moderator has access to in the same way as they would access a speaker's thumbnail. Here they can:
- Stop the speaker's screenshare.
- Mute the speaker's screenshare
- Ask the speaker to enable the audio in their screenshare.
Main controls colors and states
All users in the studio (speakers/moderators/hosts) always have access to the main controls to control their own devices.
The buttons in the main controls display different colors and states in order to provide the user with all the information they need. As such, the user can clearly see whether they are currently:
- Muted or not
- Sharing their video or not
- Sharing their screen or not
- Currently live or just in the green room.
Below is a summary of how these states can appear in the main controls, depending on whether they are on or off and whether the user is live or in the green room:
Additionally, users can see how their microphone is working in real time (whether they are are currently mute or not):
Studio user notifications
Notifications have been added to Studio to provide a smoother experience to users.
Depending on the situation or the status of a user, notifications can appear to the host, speaker, or moderator, providing real-time information on what is happening in the live stream.
The notifications provide information on whether the user is muted or not, and inform users if certain actions are performed the host or moderator.
The notifications appear in the live stream view, just above the user's main controls:
