How to use StreamYard as a speaker
Troubleshooting
This page explains the different issues you could encounter when trying to join StreamYard and how those issues can be resolved.
Browsers
Browsers compatible with StreamYard: Chrome, Firefox and Opera.
Unfortunately, other browsers, like Safari, do not support the technology yet. We recommend Chrome for the best experience.
Camera and Microphone
If either of these doesn't work, run through these in order of priority:
- Make sure to close all other tools on the laptop that may be using your camera or mic (zoom, skype, teams, etc).
- Check that the right camera and microphone have been selected on StreamYard (use Cam/Mic cog icon on the bottom tool-bar and choose Camera or Audio to select the correct Camera/Microphone).
- If no Camera / Microphone can be selected, the access permissions need to be changed:
- On a Mac:
- Click the Apple logo in the top left > System Preferences > Security & Privacy
- Click Privacy
- Click Camera
- Check the box next to your browser
- Click Microphone
- Check the box next to your browser
- The permissions can also be allowed by clicking on the little icon on the left in the browser-bar. Click on the icon and change the permission settings.
- On a Mac:
You can not see/hear other speakers, but see your own camera
This is usually linked to a firewall or VPN that prevents StreamYard to work appropriately. Make sure that you disconnect from any VPN that may be activated.
If connected to an office secured Wifi, switch to another wifi or create a hotspot with your mobile device through 4G.
Make sure to log out and in again once done.
