What is the "Time spent in the app" report
We have added a new dashboard report, called Time spent in the app, that allows workspace managers users to see the overall time that each app user has spent being actively in the app.
The report will contain a single “Summary tab”, with one row per attendee, containing the following information:
- The attendee ID, first name, last name, and email address, by default. Other metadata fields can be selected if needed when generating the report.
- The part of the total active time that the user spent on the Android app in seconds.
- The part of the total active time that the user spent on the iOS app in seconds.
- The part of the total active time that the user spent on the web app in seconds.
- The total active time in seconds, minutes, and hours (one column used for each).
This is an overall count of the active time. The report does not contain a breakdown of the activity type (that distinguished attending the live session from engaging with a feed or document, etc.).
Important: Reports can only be generated for workspaces that have their start date on or after June 4, 2026. For events that have a start date prior to June 4, 2026, this report is not available. Mobile app users must be using the latest available version of the mobile app to ensure that data is accurate.
To note, anonymized user information can only be applied to the report based on the user email domain, as seen above in the example. If anonymization is applied to the full workspace, the report will not be available.
How to download the "Time spent in the app" report
The report can be downloaded via the workspace dashboard, where users can select the time range for the report, as well as any other user metadata that they want to include:
When downloading the report, the time range will default to the event start and end dates. Users cannot change the start date to before the event creation date:
Important:
- This report is only available by default in workspaces that are set to “Advisory board” as the event type in the settings. It will not be available if you select “Other” > Advisory board as the event type.
- Reports can only be generated for workspaces that have their start date on or after June 4, 2026. For events that have a start date prior to June 4, 2026, this report is not available.
- This report is only visible to Backstage users that have a “Manager” role in the workspace.
- This report can be requested for non-Advisory board workspace types by contacting SpotMe Support.
- Mobile app users must be using the latest available version of the mobile app to ensure that data is accurate.
- Anonymized user information can only be applied to the report based on the user email domain. If anonymization is applied to the full workspace, the report will not be available.
When is an attendee considered "active"
For live sessions and video breakouts:
An attendee is considered active when they are connected in the session (video breakout or live session). If they were to briefly move to another tab to take care of something else while still being connected in the session they are seen as still active in the session.
This is applicable whether the app or browser tab is foregrounded or backgrounded, or whether the attendee’s camera is on or off during a video breakout, as they are deemed still engaged in the session while they are connected.
If the video stops or if an attendee hits the “Pause” button during a live session, the active time stops being counted, and will resume when the user unpauses or starts watching the video again.
If an attendee loses their internet connection during a live session or a video breakout, the active time stops being counted while they are offline, and starts counting again once they are back online.
Viewing live session recordings is counted as being active in the same way as viewing a live session.
For interactive content:
Such as documents/discussion boards, feeds, forms, surveys, pages, activity challenges, agenda, etc.
Any duration of time during which the attendee is performing a detectable interaction such as scrolling (and mouse movement for web app), clicking, tapping, typing, commenting, or annotating.
If no detectable interaction is recorded for 5 continuous minutes, we consider that the user is no longer actively engaged in the app, and therefore the active timer pauses. Also, as soon as the app or browser tab is moved to the background, the active timer pauses.
Note: If a user is active on more than one device simultaneously, the active time will currently be counted twice in the report. For example, if a user is active on the web app from 09:00-09:10 (for 10 minutes) and simultaneously on the iOS app from 09:05-09:10 (5 minutes), a total of 15 minutes of active time is counted.
