As explained in the SpotMe platform country-specific limitations article, Google Play Store is not available in some countries.
This means that attendees using Android devices cannot install the SpotMe app from the store.
In order to allow attendees to access the event app via their Android devices, you will need to either instruct them to use the web app on their mobile devices, or distribute the Android app file via an alternative route. You can for example send them the file directly or make the file available for download via a private store.
When users receive mobile application file directly, or are advised to download it from a trusted website, it is necessary for them to manually install these apps on their devices. Here are the steps to accomplish this on Android devices:
- Navigate to the "Settings" application on your Android device.
- Scroll through the menu and select "Apps" or "Application Manager" depending on your device.
- Look for an option titled "Special app access," which might be under an "Advanced" submenu in some versions of Android.
- Choose "Install unknown apps" to proceed.
- From the list, pick an application through which you wish to install APK files. Typically, your web browser or a file manager app is most suited for this purpose.
- Toggle the "Allow from this source" option to permit the installation of APK files via the selected application.
By following these instructions, users can safely install applications from sources outside of the official Google Play Store, provided they trust the source of the APK file.
