The below article is updated to reflect upcoming changes that will be released on January 15, 2025.
The home screen is typically the first screen that app users will se when they access the app.
It is the perfect place for app users to find dynamic content and real-time updates.
The home screen can be configured to display either the Home feed or an alternative content using the Home launcher.
For some helpful tips on using the Home screen, and in particular the home feed and quick links, read our Getting the most out of the Home feed article.
Here you can configure what you would like to see on the Home page. By default, the Home feed is selected, as this is the recommended use for this setting.
Other recommended uses include an individual feed, a specific page, or a session.
Using the Home feed as the home screen
The Home feed is selected by default to be shown on the home page. It can be configured to display that you want to highlight in the app, and in particular quick links (1) and feed posts (2):
Similar to a social media feed, the Home feed stimulates conversation and interaction among users and is constantly updated, so there's always a reason for app users to visit it.
As such, it's designed to be the most visible space in the app and the ideal place for any important one-time messages that can be sent on behalf of the app or key speakers.
App users can easily post in the Home feed by using the Post or + buttons.
Configuring the Home feed
The Home feed is selected by default to be displayed on the Home screen. You can configure what the Home feed should contain.
To configure the Home feed, go to the Design category in the main menu, and select Home:
Here, you will see the Home launcher page, with the Home page drop downs.
Make sure that you select Nav + Home here (nav_home_feed) if your want to select the Home feed, and click Save.
Next, open the Home feed tab in the panel to the left:
Here you can configure:
Feeds to exclude
These are the feeds (and their corresponding posts) that will be excluded from the Home feed. Use the dropdown to select the feeds to exclude. Posts from multiple feeds will always be displayed in a chronological order.
Pinned post
A pinned post can be selected using the dropdown to appear at the top the home feed posts, beneath the banner, tool bar, and quick links. The pinned post can only be a post from one of the feeds that are included in the home feed.
Enable or disable the Prevent users from posting images images in the aggregated feed option to choose whether or not you want to allow app users to add images to their posts on the Home feed. To note, the choice made on this home feed setting will override the choice made on the individual feed's settings.
Note: Any additional configuration or options for the Home feed and its posts need to be set directly via the individual feeds themselves. For more information on configuring feeds please refer to Managing Feeds and Posts article.
Banner
Upload a banner that will be displayed above the home feed, or select an existing banner that is already uploaded to the workspace.
The recommended size and format for the banner is 2000 x 1000px (2:1 ratio) - JPG or PNG - for all platforms.
Quick links
The quick links on the Home feed provide app users with easy access to relevant in-app or external content, directly from the Home screen. They're a great complement to the app menu or navigation items, as they can be frequently adjusted in order to give more visibility to content that is relevant to users at specific times during the event.
The items (or links) in the carousel can be configured using the drop down menu. Simply select the content type, and then the actual content to link to. We recommend that you add no more than 5 items to the quick links.
Please also keep in mind that a dedicated Live session item, linked to the app user's in-progress session, is added by default to the quick links carousel. The Live session link acts as a direct link to the current live session that is on the app user's agenda. The live session needs to have started less than 2 hours before the current time, and needs to finish in less than 2 hours to be displayed in the Live session link.
The live session icon is set using the asset available in Files > Icons > live_session
This icon can be changed, but the new file used will have to be uploaded here, replacing the old one, and have the same fp_ext_id: "live_session".
Posting in the Home feed
From an app user's perspective, the Home feed works like any other feed.
Please note however that when an app user posts in the Home feed, they will need to select the individual feed that they are posting to.
The post will then appear in the Home feed, and the specific feed that the user posted to will also be displayed in the post header. For example: User to Feed name
All the usual like and share interactions are available in the Home feed.
Searching in the Home feed
App users can perform searches in the Home screen. The search function in the home screen searches through the app agenda, speakers, users and feed posts.
Displaying other content as the home screen
While we recommend using the Home feed on your app's home page (as it includes the quick links and additional options described above), the home screen can also be configured to display other content than the Home feed.
This is done by using the dropdown in the Home launcher.
Here for example, you can select a page, a form, or any item of your choosing.
Important: Associating the home launcher with external content (for example a website or video outside the app), a live stream, or a document is not supported.
Tip: If you wish to display a live session and its associated live stream on the home page, you will go to the Interactivity > Live sessions > Preferences, and select a live session (that has a live stream configured) to open in the Live stream to start setting. More information
