Summary
The Action option in an activity can be used to add a link to the actual task that the app user needs to perform.
When an action is added to an activity, the activity displayed in the app user's activity challenge page will contain a link allowing the app user to easily access the task related to the activity, in order to earn the points.
For example, if the activity is to view a video, the activity action could direct the app user (via a link) to the document in the app that contains the video that the app users need to watch to earn the points. Or, if the activity is that app users need to add information to their profile to earn points, the action linked to the activity could be to display the edit profile page.
Some actions do more than just add links, such as the Pop-up action, or the Bookmark action, and multiple actions can be added to each activity.
Tip: If you want the activity challenge to be more of a scavenger hunt type game, where users actually need to search for content in the app, then perhaps you do not want to make it so easy for the app user to find the tasks that need to be completed to earn the points. In which case, you should probably choose to not use the Action options in your activities.
Open an activity, and select the action type, then and select the option for your action:
The options are explained below.
Configuring activity actions
Add to bookmarks
This action can for example be associated with the Open an item activity.
This action can be used to bookmark an item when it is open by the app user via an activity. You can for example choose a specific document which will be automatically bookmarked when opened.
Open a feed link
This action can for example be associated with the Feed participation activity.
Adding this action will open a hashtag (#) or a mention (@) in a specified feed, when the app user taps the activity. More specifically, this will take app users to the posts() in a specific feed that contain a specific hashtag or mention.
There are two fields that have to be configured for this:
- The Text field, where you can enter either the hashtag (#) or the
mention (@). - The Feed field where you can choose the feed.
Open a custom link
This action can for example be associated with the Open a document activity.
Adding this action will open a URL when the app user taps the activity. Simply add the URL to the available field to configure this.
Open an item
Adding this action can allow you to link any type of in-app content to the activity. You can choose any type of app content, such as content page, feed, post, document, session, etc, using the dropdown lists.
When the app user taps the activity in the activity challenge page they will be directed to the selected app content.
Edit profile
By adding this action to an activity, a link will be added to the user's activity challenge page in the app that, when tapped, takes them to their profile page to prompt them to edit/add their profile information.
This action is usually used with the Activated User activity. After activating their app, the app user cna go to their Activity challenge page, tap the activity, and edit their profile information in order to earn the associated points.
Show a pop-up message
This action, when associated to an activity, will display a pop-up to the app user when they tap the activity. The pop-up contains a title and sentence, and can be configured to include a link to in-app content, so that after viewing the pop-up the app user has the option to continue on to the link target. If no link is added to the pop-up action, then the app user will only be able to dismiss the pop-up.
There are three options which have to be configured for the functionality:
