Overview
This page summarizes different types of activation mechanisms supported by SpotMe apps. Every mechanism allows you to easily authenticate your users based on different available data, security levels and convenience.
Multi-event
- Email login (default for branded apps)
- Email and password (default for Eventspace and Workspace)
- Single Sign-On (SSO)
- Third-party login (3PL)
Single-event
Differences with Eventspace App
All methods below are supported by Eventspace and Workspace apps. Out-of-the box both apps use Email and password mechanism (see notes), but they allow users to authenticate using any of the mechanisms listed below through an additional step - domain identification.
Customization
Colors and the welcome graphic can be customized per each app. To customize colors or graphics of an existing app please contact Backstage support.
Activation Mechanisms
Users just type their email address and in an instant have access to all their events/workspaces.
Requirements

- User’s email addresses entered in Backstage CMS
- User
- Email client with correct email address required on same device
Deployment checklist
- Ensure both invitation and activation emails are received in a timely manner
- Instruct users not to use password field in app download email
Notes
- Activation link and temporary password are both valid for 30 minutes, after which users have to request a new one from the app
- Temporary password can be used only on the same device it was requested
- If user enters 10 invalid temporary passwords their account will be locked and they will need to contact SpotMe support to unblock their account.
Email and Password
Alternative workflow users to set their own password the first time they use the app, and later log in with it.

- User’s email addresses entered in Backstage CMS
Notes
- In branded apps, passwords can be either set by users or pre-defined by SpotMe
- In Eventspace app, passwords are always pre-defined
- In Workspace app, passwords are always set by users
Public Registration
Users sign-up directly in the app through a customizable form. Signing up will give them access only to one event/workspace.

- Organizer
- Decide what is the information you need to know about the participants (email, contact details, address, etc.)
- User
- Email client with correct email address required on same device

- For Eventspace, include domain name you chose in the app download email

- Confirmation email can be customized
- Registration form supports free-text, password and dropdown fields
Single Sign-On (SSO)
Enterprise-ready activation mechanism. Users login to the app with a corporate identity provider and get access to all of their events/workspaces.
Deployment checklist
- For Eventspace, include the domain name you chose in the app download email
Notes
Third-Party Login (3PL)
This mechanism allows SpotMe to connect with any proprietary authentication system or identity provider.

- Developer documentation of the authentication system
Notes
- Credentials are stored on the device
- System can be both configured to allow access to only one event/workspace or to multiple
- Not supported in the Web App
Custom Username (Event Login)
Users can login using a username based on any profile field and a predefined password.
Requirements
- Organizer
- Ensure username field is present for all participants in event/workspace
