When using optical (OCR) lead scanning onsite, having to manually map the text that was scanned on a badge to the available lead profile metadata can in some cases take too much time, especially at busy trade shows and conventions.
To help speed things up and make things smoother onsite for representatives, we have added an automatic field mapping functionality that relies on AI.
This functionality runs entirely on-device using secure Apple Intelligence models, keeping lead data private and never sharing personally identifiable information with third parties.
The below functionality can only be used in the Universal lead capture module, and is currently only supported on iOS, using at the minimum the following: iPhone 15 Pro, iPad Pro M1, iPad Air M1, iPad mini A17 Pro, all running at minimum on iOS version 26. This is currently not supported on Android devices.
The functionality, when enabled and supported on the mobile device, will automatically detect the content on the badge and associate it with the lead profile metadata that is available:
This means that the step where the representative manually maps the text to the metadata can be skipped. They will just need to verify that the automatic mapping has selected the correct metadata, and validate.
How to enable automatic AI-powered field mapping
On Backstage, the automatic AI-powered field mapping must first be enabled at the organization level.
It can then be enabled on the relevant workspace belonging to that organization, in the Lead capture settings.
To note, for scanning, representatives will also need to make sure that they have Apple Intelligence enabled on their device. On their device they can go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri → the Apple Intelligence slider should be enabled:
At the organization level
To enable the automatic field mapping at the organization level, go to the organization default workspace settings, and enable the “Optical scan automatic mapping” option:
Remember to click Save to confirm your changes.
This will make the setting available to be enabled in the Lead capture settings in the Universal lead capture module for the workspace.
In the Universal lead capture settings in the workspace
To enable the automatic field mapping in the Universal lead capture module, go to the Lead capture settings, and enable the “Automatic mapping” option:
Remember to click Save to confirm your changes.
This will now enable the functionality when representatives capture leads using optical (OCR) scanning.
What happens if the representative’s mobile device does not support the AI-powered auto-mapping?
AI-powered auto-mapping is currently only supported on iOS, using at the minimum the following: iPhone 15 Pro, iPad Pro M1, iPad Air M1, iPad mini A17 Pro, all running at minimum on iOS version 26. This is currently not supported on Android devices.
If a representative’s mobile device does not support the AI-powered auto-mapping, the below message will be displayed:
The representative will simply need to map the fields manually as they cannot use the AI-powered auto-mapping functionality.
